WELCOME SUMMER CAMP 2026

We are pleased to welcome you to Summer Camp 2026 at Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club. It is our privilege to serve your family this season and to share what you can expect in the weeks ahead. This year’s camp is led by Sara Kolstad, Operations Manager, and Zander Breault, Operations Supervisor. They are joined by Mallory Wheatley, Assistant General Manager, who assists families with registration and billing questions. Together, these three leaders provide oversight, structure, and support for our team of seasonal camp counselors, ensuring a safe, organized, and engaging camp experience for every child. 

At HFAC, we are guided by our three core values: Health, Relationships, and Excellence. 

  • Health – Campers stay active each day through structured athletics, swimming, games, and movement-based activities designed to build healthy habits and confidence. 
  • Relationships – We foster connection through teamwork, shared challenges, and positive peer interaction, helping campers form meaningful friendships within our community. 
  • Excellence – We hold high standards for safety, organization, and program quality, encouraging each camper to strive for their personal best while having fun. 

Our camp follows a consistent daily structure that provides rhythm and stability for children. Within that framework, each week introduces a new theme, bringing fresh activities, creative projects, athletic challenges, and special events that infuse new energy into the core schedule. This balance allows campers to feel comfortable and confident while still experiencing something exciting and different each week. 

Two weeks prior to your child’s camp, we will email specifics about this season’s camp counselors, the activities for the different theme weeks, and other logistics. If you have any immediate questions, please see our FAQ page.

HFAC’s 3 Easy Tips to keep your body and mind healthy in a desk job

3 Tips for Staying Healthy at Your Desk Job in Hillsboro

Too much sitting has been called “the new smoking”. It’s easy to see why. Long bouts of seated work are hard on health, impacting posture, heart, mind and more.  Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club’s hometown, Hillsboro, Oregon, is a booming industry hub with thousands of desk-bound employees. Are you one of them?

HFAC has so many amenities to stretch, strengthen, balance and restore. Whether you’re currently a member or considering membership, our team of professionals can help you find solutions that meet your needs. Consider these 3 easy tips to promote your health!

Tip #1 – Embrace “Exercise Snacks”

At HFAC we teach that small changes can have a big impact. Why not try “Exercise Snacks.” Exercise snacking is doing 1-2 minutes of movement every 30 minutes or so. It can be something as simple as finding a staircase to go up and down or doing tricep dips using your office chair. Pace and stretch during phone calls. Take a meeting with a coworker while you “snack” together on a walk. Need real, live inspiration? Try HFAC’s  HI/LO Fitness Class with Nancy. This class is full of fun and classic moves anyone can do anywhere!

Tip #2 – Snack Smarter

Exercise snacks are great but ACTUAL food snacks can be healthy too. 😉 At Hawthorn Farm we love snacking as much as the next club. We rarely recommend abstaining from snacks but focusing instead on mindful eating of nutritionally dense whole foods. The American Heart Association recommends trying to make healthier versions of packaged snacks at home so you can choose the ingredients. If you’re frustrated or in a snack rut, book an appointment with an HFAC personal trainer with a nutrition certification to develop a plan.

Tip #3 – Establish a Pre or Post Work Movement Ritual.

Create a workout routine by building off your workday structure. Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club has fitness trainers and group exercise classes available before and after work as well as a great lunch crowd. The feeling of accomplishment and proven increase in endorphins that exercise yields are second to none. It could be weight training, cardio, yoga, swimming or a stretching session in our dedicated and well-equipped stretching area. We have it all here at HFAC!

Being assigned to a desk can be fine! Just sprinkle in a little intentionality and some help from Hillsboro’s locally owned luxury athletic club, Hawthorn Farm.

Top 5 Hillsboro Spring Break Staycation Tips

Does the upcoming Spring Break have you daydreaming about vacation? Here at your favorite, locally owned gym and wellness community, Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club, we love a good travel fix. It can also be healthy for mind and wallet to staycation; incorporating fun, play, and restoration into life at home. Doing a staycation well is an art. Here are HFAC’s Top 5 Tips for doing it well! 

Tip #1 – Staycation Starts at Home

Find a theme! Have fun doing smaller things that bring hotel luxury into your home, so you feel like an honored guest.

  • Robes! Go ahead and spring for some nice bathrobes or leisurewear. You may be living in them for the length of your staycation so think of it as an all-purpose outfit. The fluffier the better!
  • Bring in all the senses! As this Harvard Gazette article reminds us, scents and smell are tied to memory and emotion. A touch of teatree in a room can make you feel whisked away to a resort. Hang twinkling lights or find candles that smell like vacation to keep things warm and inviting. Make your own vacation playlist and turn it just loud enough you can’t help but dance!
  • Put snacks on display! Minibars are a luxury the best hotels know how to stock right. Consider some of these yummy yet healthier snacks from Healthline.  

Tip #2 – Actively Relax

At HFAC, we know that rest is essential. Sleeping in and taking naps can be a great part of staycation but getting active can burn stress and worries away. HFAC’s Matrix 7xi Cardio screens on treadmills, bikes and ascent trainers can take you all over the world with the click of a button. You could even sign up for a yoga class every day and create your own personal yoga retreat! Don’t feel like leaving the house? HFAC’s robust online fitness classes led by our best-in-class instructors and personal trainers are a great way to stay active while you relax at home.

Tip # 3 – No Projects/No News

The big temptation when we stay home and have free time is to fill it with a honey-do list or an engrossing project. Resist! Read a new book, plan a movie night each night, binge-watch a favorite show, but avoid the news or home projects. The world will still be turning when you get back. For now…unplug.

Tip # 4 – Recreate with Your Favorite People

One of the best things about vacation can be quality time with people who are important. HFAC Members love making memories with Pickleball, one of America’s fastest growing sports. It’s an absolute blast to play with friends or the whole family. If that’s not your style, HFAC offers pool time, a rockwall climb or even squash match to have active fun together.

Tip # 5 – Pamper Yourself

Most of us don’t own a sauna and it’s probably exactly what your staycation needs. Fear not! Include a daily trip to the best gym in Hillsboro for recovery amenities like our year-round outdoor hot tub, large sauna and steam rooms, massage therapy, stretching areas and more. You would take care of yourself on vacation, so take care of yourself on staycation too!

Give Love With Stress Management in Hillsboro

With Valentine’s Day coming up, let’s talk about giving some love to you! The most common concerns we hear from HFAC Members are related to stress, all the demands on time and attention, and how stress impacts the body.

We get it! That’s why at HFAC we work so hard to bring meaningful, science-backed tools and resources to the Membership experience, starting with our incredible culture of belonging.

HFAC is a local, women-led business with three generations of our family that work at and enjoy the club. This means Hawthorn Farm Athletic Club is specifically passionate about welcoming all ages and level of fitness. We have a ton of amenities and a relaxed atmosphere that allows for exploration and finding the work outs and amenities that make the biggest impact on your wellbeing. We have everything from swimming and swim lessons to pickleball, and weight training to Zumba and an at-home workout library  with thousands of recorded classes.

As the Nagoski sisters say in the book Burnout, “Physical activity is the single most efficient strategy for completing the stress response cycle and recalibrating your central nervous system into a calm state.”  HFAC has so many ways to de-stress through physical activity, there really is something for every interest. 

Hawthorn Farm is also as much a social club as we are a place for fitness. This is by intention as well. People with more acquaintances are happier. “
